Active Server Pages

Active Server Pages are Microsoft Server Side Scripting language pages which are compiled and executed by Microsoft Web Server IIS(Internet Information Services) at run time and give dynamic output or response in the form of HTML Page.We can embed this Microsoft Technology with Client Side Script like Java Script or VB Script in a html page but has to save with extension .asp to be treated as server side page.

Classic ASP and ASP .NET

Earlier technology known as Classic ASP which can be merged with html web pages. Now Microsoft introduce advance technology ASP.NET who also has an development IDE tool and framework to develop robust Web Application. In New technology you can work on multiple languages like VB.NET and C# (C Sharp) to produce web solution and desktop applications. As Classic asp is interpreted the source code while the .NET has two step compilation its both compile and interpreted by generating MSIL(Microsoft Interpreted language) and also use JIT (Just in Time compiler).

Classic ASP is written in VB script or Jscript which are small scripting languages. Microsoft .NET has wide range of classes and framework to support run time environment.
